Support your local community transport: The Mede Sprint
The Mede Sprint was established in 2003 as a door-to-door community transport service available to anyone living or working in Knowle West. It has two accessible mini buses both of which have a ramp for wheelchairs, and a 6 seater people carrier. To book a seat you need to be a member and membership is free and open to anyone living or working in Knowle West, you can get an application form from The Mede or follow the link below. At the end of November there were 445 active members. We take members anywhere within the local area eg. Health Park in Knowle West (William Budd doctors’ surgeries, Knowle West Health Park and Walk in Centre) shopping, hairdressers and bingo etc. or just to visit friends. If you are a concessionary card holder then journeys are free and if under 60 they cost just £1.
The Sprint also puts on daytrips twice a week out of the area. A monthly list of trips gets advertised on the Sprint vehicles and at the Mede Centre but we can also email the list to other local organisations. They do get booked up very quickly so do let us know if you are interested.
In order to increase the Mede Sprint service we require a bank of volunteer drivers to drive the extra vehicle as the council only gives funding for 2 paid drivers.
If anyone would like to volunteer please contact Liz or Sue at The Mede (see link below). The volunteer needs a clean driving licence with a category D1. In return the Sprint will pay for MIDAS training and other expenses incurred. This is an excellent volunteer job for anyone wanting to eventually get back into paid employment and will look good on their C.V.
So become a member today and not only do you enjoy free or subsidised journeys but you can have a say in how the service is run. Follow link below to access a membership form or contact The Mede and speak to Liz or Sue on 01179048215 for more details.
